Born to a well-known and honored dragoon, Kain felt the
first taint of grief when his family died while he was
just a small boy. Cain's mother joined him soon after.
Along with Cecil Harvey, another orphan, the boys were
taken in by the king of Baron and were raised like one
of his very own. Quickly Kain and Cecil became the best
of friends, and after a while, were inseperable. In many
ways, though, they were different; Cecil had an inner
light that seemed to guide his actions and protect him from
harm. Kain, on the other hand, beheld somewhat of a...
darker nature.

While close during much of their childhood, and comrades
through the years of training in Baron's military,
the separation between the "brothers" grew after choosing
to take different paths in life; while Cecil enlisted
into the ranks of the Dark Knights, Kain shunned the idea,
despite urgings from the king, and took on the role of
a Dragon Knight instead, following in the footsteps
of his father. At such a time, both were also developing
their own romantic feelings towards Rosa Farrell, a
treasured friend from their childhood.

Matters were complicated further by Rosa generating more
interest towards Cecil, and so the seeds of jealousy
were sewn within Kain that would only continue to blossom
over time. With Cecil's appointment as captain of the
Red Wings airship squadron, negativity began to fester
inside inside of him, and while well-concealed, it would
ultimately lead to his downfall.

During Zemus's whims to seize control of the crystals
of both the upper and lower realms of the blue planet,
Zeromus, the manifestation of the Lunarian's hatred,
seized control of Kain, just as it did a number of other
individuals to further his sinsister plans, including
Golbez, Cecil's own brother. The misguided hatred
and confusion inside of Kain allowed him to be easily
maniuplated, causing him to commit a number of
unsightly acts, not the least of which including Rosa's
abduction, and being one of the many pawns in Zemus's
scheme.

While having a hand in the eventual defeat of Zeromus
and restoring balance to the blue planet, Kain could
not forget the wrongs dealt out by his hands. Distraught
with the feeling of having betrayed his truest of friends,
the dragoons, and most of all, his father, never again
would he return to Baron, fleeing to roam other lands and
train in the hopes that by furthering his skills, he
could somehow atone for his sins and make up for his
disgrace.

It was during these travels that he became acquainted
with Talion Sauron, and after hearing out an offer that he
found difficult to refuse, Kain found himself welcomed into
the arms of the Shadow Warriors, and ultimately,
the legion of the Shadow Guard.

Currently the "right-hand man" of Cid Highwind, as well
as an advisor to the trainees of the Guard, it's no wonder
that each day the fallen son of Aron may be finding
himself a small step closer to redemption.
